Sensex, Nifty may stay positive;M&M, Lupin likely to be in focus

M&M, Thermax and Motherson Sumi will announce June quarter results today. 

Following stable global markets, India is likely to be in positive trend today. Asian shares held near one-year highs as investors pared expectations slightly for a Federal Reserve interest rate increase following weak US productivity data, which drove the dollar and Treasury yields lower.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares excluding Japan. Japan's Nikkei fell 0.6 percent on the yen's gains.

Wall Street eked out gains on Tuesday following a strong session for European stock markets. Additionally, the Bank of England's reverse bond auction failed to meet its target on Tuesday, highlighting the scarcity of investors willing to sell from a quickly dwindling pool of long-term bonds with positive yields.

Back home, market consolidated yesterday. The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 97.41 points at 28,085.16 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 33.10 points to 8,678.25 while the broader markets also traded in line, falling 0.4 percent on weak breadth.

The much-awaited monetary policy was a non-event today as the governor Raghuram Rajan left repo rate, at which banks borrow money from the Reserve Bank of India, unchanged at 6.5 percent and cash reserve ratio at 4 percent. 2 DAY FREE TRAILS TIPS

The British pound falls after a Bank of England policymaker said that more quantitative easing was probably necessary if the UK’s economic decline worsens.

Gold prices rise to USD 1345 level supported by stagnant bets on a fed rate hike this year. Nymex crude slipped below USD 43 a barrel after industry data showed American oil stockpiles was already at seasonal highs.

I got very useful updates from here. Still I am highlighting some more. In the 50-share index, Grasim, Lupin, Bharti Infratel,Ambuja Cement and ACC were down between 1.40 per cent and 5.03 per cent. On the other hand, Adani Ports, NTPC, TCS, Bajaj Auto and Bharti Airtel were up between 0.52 per cent and 5.04 per cent. NSE Nifty was down 45.50 points at 8632.75.
